I upgraded CPU and want to upgrade OS from 32 bit to 64 bit in conjunction with 12.2 installation. 64 bit 12.2 will be installed in place of currently unused 11.0. Can I do the initial 64 bit 12.2 installation normally, then boot back to 32 bit 11.4 and chroot into 64 bit 12.2 to customize and configure, or will the different arch be an obstacle?
A 32-bit kernel will not be able to run 64-bit userland, so a chroot will not work from a 32-bit kernel into a 64-bit disk. The other way round works.
Entries in user-packages.xml contain an arch field. Can YaST a user-packages.xml generated from 32 bit be used for a 64 bit installation? I don't see user-packages.xml discussed on any SDB: page or in /usr/share, only a smattering in the forums.
