That's a good question.  I sent messages from my gmail account to my sky 
account which uses pop and directly to my dovecot server which is imap. I 
received only one of each message.  However, since then I have received 
duplicate emails from the opensuse list which comes  via my sky account.
I use dovecot to access my sky account.

Yes I have local filters set for handling the opensuse mail (which has given 
me an idea).
