If you want Calibre to just work, forget about any opensuse branded stuff. Simply go here: http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux then triple click on the line... 'sudo python -c . . .' and copy that. then open a root terminal and paste it in and hit enter. It'll ask for a password and suggested folder for calibre at which you simply hit enter. Then wait. It'll download and install then tell you to close any running calibre and restart it. You should select a folder to download all your epubs to such as /home/Downloads/eBooks and they will automatically be dumped into calibre.

you can doenload pdfs and other formatt and comvert them to epub or one of other formats.

You can also explode any epub and edit it with something like Sigil, then restore the epub with the changes.

I've been doing that for at least 3 years and it works beautifully. If you have a Kindle or Nook, there's a way to automatically have your downloads converted to DRM free versions you can read on your laptop or any where else you want.
