In any case, I had an open libreoffice document when the system froze up, and I had just saved it. I reset my computer, and when it rebooted I went to open up libreoffice again. It started the recovery process, which had always worked before without a problem, but this time it failed to recover the file. I did end up losing that file and had to rebuild it from scratch.
In any case, I don't have a need to recover that old file anymore. However, I still am having a small problem with libreoffice. Whenever I open up any document in libreoffice, it still tries to recover that old document and fails. You can see the screen shots below.

So I am wondering, how do I get libreoffice to stop attempting recovery of this file? I don't need it anymore and it is kind of a pain in the neck now.
i had this problem once, before the advent of LibreOffice i think. the solution i found then was to start the executable with the --norestore option ("soffice --norestore"). then it doesn't try to fix that invisible document. can't remember if i had to continue doing this, or if doing it once solved the problem persistently; i think it did, though.
there also must be a location, probably under ~/.liberoffice somewhere, where the app. stores info. about crashed files it thinks need recovery. couldn't find such a location right now, but that might be because i don't have any crashed doc.s at present.
Or.. did either of you try simply clicking Cancel instead of clicking Recover Document on this phantom unrecoverable document? Clicking Cancel should always work - I've rarely seen this fail to get OOo or LibO to stop trying to recover the missing/broken document. It's a common question I used to see all teh time when i was working for OpenOffice.org... and 99.99999%^ of the time clicking Cancel made it go away.
