I gave up on KDE4.8 and rolled back to KDE4.7.4 to get a usable
desktop back.  The bugs have been reported... by others... what I find
really odd is... some people are not seeing this.. yet I see it on
every machine I've installed it on over the weekend.  I haven't tested
in VirtualBox yet - maybe tonight.  I've got to wonder... why some
people see it and others don't.

did you try with a new user account, in case it's a configuration issue?

On my KDE4.8 install... single user - I didn't have time to test on a
new user/config.

The bug in general shows up on every user across multiple installs
with every release of KDE since 4.6.0. It's there in the default
install of oS12.1 as well (the minor issue of apps not always being
immediately removed from the Task Manager after exiting).

my Qt is the same as your's. somehow i don't think it's anything to do with
the additional repos. from the 'exotic' one's i'm using just one or two
packages for a specific purpose. that shouldn't have any impact on KDE's
task manager.

other than it being a config. issue somewhere in your HOME, i have no idea
what the problem might be.

Hmmm well if I find some spare time tonight, I'll poke at it again.
It really baffles me how I can see that bug on every single KDE
install since 4.6.0, yet there are others who never see it... it's not
linked to nVidia drivers (that I can, see since it happens on my
laptop with Intel video as well).

The bugs seem to point at QY bugs.. but... that also seems
inconclusive since.. the devs aren't seeing the problem

A real puzzler.
