Yes it is. FF/TB are, when it comes down to it, Gnome applications, not KDE ones. Do you expect any/all Gnome applications to use KDE system settings simply because you run them under KDE?
And why would a Gnome app default to a KDE app?
Because a KDE user of Firefox configured it that way?
Oh, you mean 'out of the box' on a virgin install? Surely Konqueror is the default browser for KDE, not Firefox.
And surely an app that uses the gnomic settings ... oh right, we've now got GIO or something so all the experience and knowledge we gained about configuring Firefox and Thunderbird for KDE users has been changed. Think Moliere.
There seems to be a lot of confusion here. On openSUSE Firefox is the default browser also on KDE at the moment AFAIK. Also Firefox uses KDE system settings to figure out the default mailer _on openSUSE_. What does not work is to set Thunderbird as the default mailer from within its own interface as it only sets it for GIO (not KDE). It should be possible to set Thunderbird as default mailer in the KDE settings and Firefox would honor it. Or as in the beginning of the thread choose Thunderbird in Firefox' settings directly.
