I do not remember what the default fonts Gnome uses when it is installed, but with KDE I always change the default fonts, both in KDE and Firefox, to what I like. For example, one of the fonts I use is DejaVu)
AFAIK, all openSUSE DTEs use the same default fonts, specified generically:
Serif Sans Serif Monospace
Which font is actually used for each of these depends on:
1-Which fonts are actually installed 2-/etc/fonts/suse-post-user.conf
The latter is pretty self-explanatory once you open it. If you don't want to have to keep switching fonts in various applications to get what you want, move your favorites to the tops of its three lists, and they'll become the generics.
Lately the Droids have topped all my lists. All my systems use higher than average DPI, so the fonts I routinely encounter use quite a bit more pixels to draw than average. I wouldn't know what they look like at the microscopic sizes most web deeziners favor or are common on 1366x768 or lower resolution systems.
Thanks for this, Felix. I found Droid font when I looked and am now using it. Droid must be a new addition because I do not remember seeing it in the earlier versions of oS.
