Hi David, I don't have a solution, but this has bugged me too. In my case I frequently cut/paste long urls to http://tinyurl.com. I then cut the tiny url into Thunderbird, but the cut url is <b>bold</b> on the tinyurl.com web page and it becomes bold in the Tbird write window too. This is bad because many of my customers live in a world where html encoded emails are forbidden, so my tinyurl becomes a string of giborish. The work-around is to paste into a shell, then cut/paste into TB again. This seems to be a Firefox issue, I hope there's an about:config option to turn it off!
