O'Reilley have an excellent series of books in *NIX that includes "Learning the Bash Shell", which covers fundamentals. I suppose the old 1978 Bell Systems Journal is probably the best couple of volumes on basics, but its long out of print. Have they ever been offered on EBay? How much? I wouldn't sell mine, not any of my other UNIX docs and handbooks from that era, unless I was offered a goodly sum.
