Man, that's really hard to say. That was about 11 years ago. Most of it was from lack of experience, some from not being 
able to resolve and match the right version of dependencies. Some was being on other distros, like Mandrake, Slackware, 
etc which had "in progress" repros.

I must have played with 5 or 6 distros before settling on SuSE / openSuSE.

At least from an opensuse stand point, with the level of intelligence of the dependency checking, its pretty hard to 
"screw up".
