Have you tried smbclient or an application which uses the smbclient library (KDE, Gnome,<insert your appplication here>)? I don't know about Anders but I was using a Windows PC for the client.
Is AppArmor enabled and or is the finally available AppArmor fix/ update installed for openSUSE 11.4 (well, you've missed to state which product I just tried turning off AppArmor and now I can see my /data share. Since I just checked for updates in Yast earlier this evening and there were no updates offered, does this mean that this fix you mention is not yet offered by normal Yast update?
Did this work one week back and started to fail after you applied the recent two security fixes[1]? I can't go that far back since I just installed SuSE 11.4 two days ago.
