I got the impression via a Fedora dev list post a short time ago that to get memtest to run on Sandy Bridge requires v4.20.
While this is almost a week ago, for the archives: openSUSE 11.4 memtest definitively doesn't work on Sandy Bridge. You need a current memtest86+ ISO image, available via the home page http://www.memtest.org/, at least in version 4.20.
