After help from Tejas I have PulseAudio working under 11.4 on most applications. The major exception is SKYPE, which is a critical application for me. I'm running Skype Version 2.2.0.25 The Skype page says Software requirements Qt 4.4.0 • D-Bus 1.0.0 libasound2 1.0.18 PulseAudio 0.9.16 (optional) I have pulseaudio-0.9.22-6.11.1.i586 dbus-1-1.4.1-6.1.i586 libasound2-1.0.24.1-4.7.1.i586 libqt4-4.7.2-164.1.i586 So I think that's OK When Skype starts up there isn't the "whoosh" sound and and when I go to options -> sound devices the only available option for the device settings (mic/ring/sound) is PulseAudio. However the "play test sound" is greyed out. Working with the options available in the "Open PulseAudio Volume Control" doesn't offer anything to rectify that. I've run out of ideas.
