[opensuse] Cannot install Skype -- cpio: read failed - Bad file descriptor

Hmmm this is a new one. On a reasonably fresh default install of
openSUSE 11.4/KDE4.6, I've been trying without success to install
Skype.
$ zypper install skype-2.2.0.25-suse.i586.rpm
Loading repository data...

Is this a broken package from the Skype guys? or more likely something
broken somewhere else on my system?
