i didn't notice any speed difference either--in fact no difference whatsoever. 
i think google-chrome talks back more to google, about my browsing habits or 
whatever, but that doesn't really concern me. i installed it because at one 
point the chromium version from oS repos didn't work (dependency issues), and 
the google version did. i'll switch back as soon as this one gives me trouble...
