I've noticed for quite a while that the total cpu load reported in ksysguard and htop can be substantially greater than what is reported in the accompanying detail. For example, at this moment the detail in both tools show in sum up to ~25%, while the total load reported is at ~75% on both cores. I think that the total number is correct as I can feel the machine being less responsive. Several times when this has happened I've restarted KDE or rebooted and then the load of course drops and the detail/total numbers appear to be in sync, and the machine is again very responsive (this wkstn is a Phenom II X2 3.7GHz w/8MB RAM). I'm suspicious that X, Plasma, or Firefox are culprits, but I can't pin it down. I just closed FF and both the detail and total numbers dropped, but still the detail is showing in sum ~15% while the total number is averaging ~65%. Suggestions?
