I have not tried the Opera browser and have only tried browsing with Konqueror a small amount, not enough to see teh system hang. The system did however, hang while doing an Online Update with YaST.
I am beginning to think the problem is with the Ethernet driver. This is totally shocking since Ethernet and networking robustness along with overall system robustness have always been the core strength of Linux that attracted me to linux and keeps me ocming back.
Thanks, Bruce.
I suggest broader controlled tests. Replicate the browser activity in Konq & Opera to verify whether it is browser specific or more general (one hang on an online update is not conclusive of anything). If you suspect the ethernet device driver, stress test it. E.g., install the DownThemAll extension to FFox and do a somewhat large download like a live-cd from an ftp server such as one of the openSUSE mirrors; DTA will open 4 connections (you can increase the nbr if the server will permit that). Open another browser and do some surfing, pull a YouTube. There are specific stress test tools you can find, too. And try the fglrx driver.
