That's exactly what I do here.  My firewall is an old Compaq* computer, 
running OpenSUSE 11.3.  It provides firewall, router, DHCP, DNS, VPN end 
point etc.  Like you, my WiFi is a router used in bridging mode.

* I wonder if a Gateway would work better?  ;-)
