What NAS drives are people using out there and what is the best value looking for something not too big physically space id getting tight rounbd here ..
Same question here. I'm ogling the QNAP TS-259 Atom series because they have enough grunt to run Squeezeboxserver and are x86 so it can use various codecs. My concerns are fan noise and their alleged use of a hacked up ext3.5 filesystem. Any users here? What about Synology NASen?

I had been looking at the Lacie 1TB d2 Network 2
But not sure right now
Had a couple of LaCie drives (both USb and nas)
I never trust a single backup, hence...
Both faied within one year. Nice thing about garanty, you get your mony back, but your data is gone.
Ok that discounts them i got that already with a Samsung sata drive lost a big bucket of data cus it's on the fritz could do with getting a new controller board for that one ..
Think qnap is a bit more expensive, but looks better.
Yes i ahd seen those but a bit on the pricey side for me at the moment
other option, already mentioned, is building it yourself. In that case, you can support rsync, not found in many..
hw
Build yourself that would be a PC basically with a pair of drives for the NAS part and a seperate drive for the system spose thats one way to looka at ..
Take a look at freenas. I am running it from a USB-stick, so no need for a disk for the system. Mini-ITX board (Intel D510MO ATOM dual core) performs almost like a "Real Server (TM)". Does samba, rsync, nfs, upnp, daap, iscsi, ftp, http, torrent, ....
