My dolphin will show the window fairly rapidly, but I can never exit
that window.  If I do, I can't start dolphin again.  So I have to
remember to open dolphin and minimize it and leave it there.  I can open
other dolphin windows as long as I don't close the first one.

If I open a shell and launch dolphin from the shell I get this:

Also, all of my notification sounds are heard twice.  Login, shutdown,
beeps, new mail, all of them.  Annoying.  Can't figure out where that
might be set.
