As noted earlier, I'm using kernel 2.6.36.90 from HEAD, as I'd had problems with the standard 11.3 kernel (2.6.34) and the nvidia drivers. When I fired up YaST, it offered upgrades to both the driver and the KMP, which I accepted. Next time I tried to start X, the GUI failed because of an apparent mismatch between the KMP and the driver.
I know how to do it 'the hard way', but I was puzzled that the nvidia repo for openSUSE 11.3 offered the incompatible driver/KMP combination. But maybe they're not incompatible if you use the 2.6.34 kernel?
I am using kernel version 2.6.37-rc2 with nvidia drivers downloaded from nvidia repos. No problem here.
Well, I'm not sure what went wrong here using the YaST offerings, but it's working OK with the nvidia drivers downloaded from the nvidia website :) Roll on 11.4 ;) Bob -- Registered Linux User #463880 FSFE Member #1300 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 11.3 64-bit, Kernel 2.6.36.90-desktop, KDE 4.5.3 Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz, 8GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 9600GT -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
