Look at /etc/xdg/autostart/kupdateapplet-autostart.desktop, especially the X-KDE- bits.
That doesn't work for all desktops.
What doesn't work for all desktops? Are you trying to say you're running kupdateapplet not under KDE? Could you be a bit more verbose instead of saying just "no"?
The headers in the autostart file with X-KDE are extensions ("X-") valid only to KDE that introduce conditions on the autostart (eg evaluating the value of a field in a config file). These were proposed to be standardised at freedesktop.org, like most proposals from KDE there, they stalled.

Yes, I'm aware of all that, but the file also has a "OnlyShowIn=KDE" so anything but KDE should be irrelevant anyway.
Good point.
That's why I can't understand Carlos's "That doesn't work for all desktops". What does he mean?
I guess he wants a generic solution for their updater applets too.
