I would have updater check if user is in the list, and exit immediately of not. But I'm sure it could be made more complex and obtuse than that. ;-)
I know that. But that does not solve the OP problem: he is an admin, not a dev. He can not rewrite the updater. And even for a future version of the distro, that would need a complete generation of the sudoers file, a change of policy... on which I do not agree.
