I'm using similar device on my openSUSE 11.3, modem has detected out
of the box on KDE Network Manager, without using any 3rd party driver

Mine are Vodafone Huawei HSDPA USB modem E270, detected as K-3565 on
Windows machine

On 11.2, I'm using 3rd party application, hint :
