Are you sure 11.2 to 11.3 has more pluses than minuses for your hardware and needs? I've been on 11.0, and expect to upgrade to 11.2, not 11.3. The latter has KMS, and the fallout from that big architectural change still isn't close to done being cleaned up.
Yes, and my box is super sensitive to KMS black-magic. I just went to 11.3 on my older laptop (Radeon 9600) and 11.3 is working well without the fglrx driver. (temps OK [hotter than fglrx, but much cooler than prior attempts], performance is pretty good) On the up side graphics performance in 11.3 is much improved over 11.2 with the radeon driver. Unfortunately, my older laptop is the easier of the 2. My newer one (Radeon 1250) boots with KMS disabled in 2.6.34, (booted well and ran compiz well with KMS on 2.6.32, performance tanked in 2.6.33 -- but would still boot with KMS and start compiz, 2.6.35rc - will not boot at - ALL). So there are definitely bad things still to be worked out with KMS and newer kernels... It's one of those things where you feel like your only one update away from being left dead in the water :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
