I'll follow up with the results of the manual kernel install after the current update completes, but I don't expect any problems. The only anticipated issue is the radeon/2.6.34 bug that may/may not arise depending on how suse is handling the KMS early/late config. If it's KMS early, loading the radeon driver in the initramfs, then I'll be dead in the water and the kernel will crash when it gets to the "Loading Modules" line. If it is KMS late with the radeon module loaded later, boot should be fine, but I expect compiz to whitescreen. We shall see...
Feedback, 11.3 First Looks - Damn Good :-) Manual copy and install of the kernel did what it was supposed to. The Radeon KMS Early -- works ( double :-) ) and aside from the run of the mill initial release stuff 11.3 looks great ( aside from that little checksum issue... ) Graphics performance on the 'radeon' driver is good and temps are good (not fglrx good, but damn good and within 20% on temps - fan noise is much better than it has been in the past both with and without compiz). I have just strolled through gnome thus far (there are a ton of screensavers that got picked up as general menu entries, but that's a nit), and I have kde3 and kde4 updated. Kudos on the 11.3 kde3 repo! Those along with the remainder of fluxbox, openbox, windowmaker, e16, e17, etc.. will have to wait for tomorrow. Great Job Devs. If the install can survive several hundred checksum errors, a corrupt kernel and still boot into a configuration that is workable and can be updated to a finished product, that is testament to the amount of work that has gone into it since 11.0 was released. P.S. Don't do anything to screw up the radeon driver and KMS config moving to 2.6.35 - it is working very very well right now and from what I've experienced, it doesn't take much to throw the whole radeon/KMS system out of whack :p -- David C.
