Listmates, After the latest 4.4.3 updates to kde, firefox and thunderbird refuse to start, instead they segfault. They act like they are going to start, then do nothing. So we send from opera today. Originally, I received a dcop error message that was strange: 10:36 alchemy:~> /usr/bin/iceauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/david/.ICEauthority ICE Connection rejected! DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed ICE Connection rejected! DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed DCOPServer self-test failed. So i deleted ~/.ICEauthority and restarted kde, and dcop ran fine. Why it failed to begin with -- who knows? Now, however, we have problems with mozilla firefox and thunderbird refusing to run. Looking through .xsession-errors, there are a few errors related to firefox or thunderbird. klauncher(4999) KRunMX2::expandEscapedMacro: No URLs supplied to single-URL service "firefox %u" kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/firefox kwin(5011) KWin::Workspace::updateClientArea: screens: 1 desktops: 4 kwin(5011) KWin::Workspace::updateClientArea: Done. DCOP Cleaning up dead connections. /usr/bin/firefox: line 128: 5266 Segmentation fault $MOZ_PROGRAM "$@" For thunderbird, there is a painter error and similar segfault: kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/thunderbird X11OpBitmap::GetPainter(): Painter exists /usr/bin/thunderbird: line 130: 5735 Segmentation fault $MOZ_PROGRAM "$@" (I don't think the GetPainter() error is a problem, there are a number in .xsession-errors for other apps that run fine.) So what gives? How do I get firefox and thunderbird back under kde4? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
