What's currently the best resource for searching for printers?
I've found http://www.openprinting.org/printers/ but it seems that the only way to search is to first select a manufacturer. I want to choose features and see what different manufacturers have to offer.
I don't know about anything better than OpenPrinting.org. For non-PostScript printers it is hard to compare features which look the same for different models because actually it is the particular printer driver software which implements the features for non-PostScript printers so that in the end you would have to compare the particular implementations of various printer drivers running on a particular version of a particular operating system. In contrast for real PostScript printers no printer driver software is used because a PostScript printer implements the printer-specific features internally so that in this case it is much easier to compare them: When the same PostScript test page is sent directly (i.e. without any driver software in between) to various PostScript printers, one can compare their printing output. Therefore I recommend to focus on real PostScript printers, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Purchasing_a_Printer_and_Compatibility Then printing output test results in whatever comparative tests (e.g. in whatever magazines) should be actually meaningful. For a listing of particular printer-specific features of real PostScript printers you can only rely on the model specifications from the various different manufacturers because another source of information is not authoritative (except other sources tell you that a particular feature does not work, e.g. because of a printer firmware bug). For a detailed listing of particular printer-specific features of real PostScript printers you may download the excat matching model-specific PPD files from the manufacturers and inspect the listed features (and their constraints) therein, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell "What is a PPD file and how does it work?" and in http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Information_for_Printer_Manufacturers_Regarding_L...
