I am on 11.1 and KDE 3.5.
Can I - do - the upgrade path - without doing anything extra - to upgrade to 11.2 and still keep KDE 3.x ?
I don't know if this is documented or supported, but I tried it just a few days ago and IIRC it seems to work OK. A system came to me a short time back with WinXP installed on a 120G partition on a 160G HD. In order to avoid KDE4, I installed 11.1 in the freespace. I found that its onboard ATI video chip was not supported by the relatively ancient generic 11.1 radeon driver, so I decided to try a 'zypper dup' upgrade to avoid the absence of a KDE3 option in the 11.2 installer. Here's how I went about it (largely from /root/.bash_history, and in runlevel 3): 1-backed up /etc/zypp/repos.d 2-changed all files in /etc/zypp/repos.d to point to 11.2 instead of 11.1 3-copied a KDE3 repo to /etc/zypp/repos.d http://fm.no-ip.com/tmp/SUSE/112/KDE3.repo 4-zypper ref 5-zypper in openSUSE-release rpm zypper libzypp mkinitrd dbus-1 hal udev wget curl satsolver-tools perl-Bootloader yast2-bootloader 6-zypper dup 7-zypper in kernel-desktop 8-reboot to kernel-desktop 9-zypper rm (all kernels except current) 10-zypper rm kdm kdebase4-workspace kde4-kgreeter-plugins 11-zypper in kdebase3-kdm 12-edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager to point DISPLAYMANAGER to kdm3 -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
