Although I like the LOOK of KDE 4.4 activities, and like having multiple folder-view desktops, each with a different artistic background, I have not found a way to create a keyboard interface for accessing these activities. Specifically: * When I assign a shortcut key to the activity bar, the key has no effect. To move from one activity to another, I seem to have no choice but to use the mouse and click on the activity bar entry. * When I am in an activity and I want to open a widget, I am usually required to use the mouse and click on the widget. If I want to use the keyboard, first I have to use the mouse and click on the folder-view for the activity. Only then do the cursor keys become enabled. I'd like to have a shortcut key for moving along the activity-bar widget, and I'd like the cursor keys to be enabled as soon as the folder-view appears. * In konsole, I still miss the ability to access the menu bar. In KDE 3.5, I used a single key to get to the menu bar, then cursor keys to select a new tab profile or a bookmark. However, I've now found a temporary circumvention: I've created a bash script. I use Alt-F2 to start a konsole, then I run my bash script. The script offers me a numvbered list of activities. I enter a number and the script then opens all of the applications and konsole profiles that pertain to that activity. With a the help of bash, I can get a single keystroke to do the work of half a dozen mouse clicks. E.g: #!/bin/bash # select vA in "Taxes" "Forums" "Games" do echo "vA=$vA" case "$vA" in "Taxes") echo "Will load tax files:" vD="~/Taxes/2009/" konsole --new-tab --workdir $vD cd $vD oowriter LogT.odt; oocalc Hist.ods; oocalc Calc.ods; oowriter Form.odt; ;; "Forums") echo "Will load browser and log file:" vD="~/Forums/" konsole --new-tab --workdir $vD cd $vD opera gvim LogF.txt ;; "Games") echo "Will start Freecell:" kpat ;; esac break; done exit 0; -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
