I corrected one typo in added link, but also read article again. Not very pleased with changes I wrote comments on article talk page: http://en.opensuse.org/Talk:OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette and I'm looking for comments.
Problems could be fixed without asking anybody, but that would be my opinion and not this mail list consent. Unlike many other articles on http://en.opensuse.org wiki, this can't be changed by single user.
From my perspective all the business about pruning unnecessary text, being polite, etc is just...well... nit-picking in a sort of way.
One of the issues which should be brought to the forefront, and all users should have this tattooed on their foreheads, is that PRIVATE MAIL is just that: *PRIVATE MAIL*! I've received private mail from people in this forum and have followed the convention that the response must be also private - ie, addressed back only to the poster and not anyone else. And yet, I have seen my response(s) to the private mail being posted in a public forum. Or a private message was responded to publicly - this didn't worry because it was the responder who was revealing the responder's identity. The only time the contents of a private message may be revealed (by a responder) is if the person is first asked if the contents of the original message could be made public. If that person states, "No", then - the answer is obvious. Such was the "netiquette" established back in the day of AARNet/Fidonet, and this "netiquette" is not subject to negotiation. The biggest PITA re this is not only the posters'/repliers' ignorance of this most important "netiquette" rule but also a mailer's ability to come up with CC:, BCC:, and whatever, configuration which many people do not understand, or care about. How many people here realise that your mailer may automatically respond to a sender stating that you have received that person's message - but you didn't want that person to know just yet that you did receive or, or want a spammer to confirm that s/he had your correct address?
