Hi all,
just installed 11.2 on my new laptop. I noticed that nscd is creating an immense logfile - something like a kB/s.
Thanks for pointing it out, I hadn't noticed it, but the same is happening on my machine
Now I have several questions:
- is this normal?
Well, no. I'd call it a configuration bug. It is logging far too much for a default install
- on startup it tells me 13:03:43.02421 nscd v0.45, debug level 0xf ah, being verbose!? Tried debug-level 0 in /etc/nscd.conf, but that doesn't work - it still reports 0xf and produces tons of output :-((
Remove the logfile directive from nscd.conf
- apart from that the logfiles show(*) that some process is requesting my /etc/passwd entry every few seconds - is that normal? Any idea how I could find out what that is, and why? (*)at least as I interpret this...
This is normal. Every time you do anything on a command line, the shell looks up entries in passwd (or whatever backend you're using) in order to translate user IDs to user names Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
