"opensuse 11" does not exist. There is openSUSE 11.0, 11.1 and 11.2, and there 
is SUSE 11, ie, SLES.
Which one do you really have?

And yes, on upgrade home remains intact, so you keep your folders. But I'm not 
sure you can upgrade
from openSUSE 10.3 to SUSE 11.
