I started to comment the line above out (in YaST) but was asked if I really wanted to do that since it was a system supplied entry. Opinions?
Just try! If it doesn't work, undo. No permanent damage can be done, AFAIK.
I did, restarting VMware afterwards. Now I get this after attempting to login:
The server was unable to process your log in request. Please check with your server administrator.
Argh.
Here is the /var/log/vmware/hostd.log:
[2010-01-23 13:10:52.102 'Proxysvc' 140425199732464 panic] Another process is listening on the proxy port. [2010-01-23 13:10:52.102 'Proxysvc' 140425199732464 panic] Please make sure other instances of hostd are not running
Curious! Once I had to kill that process manually.
The next to last entry looked suspicious because I had just stopped/restarted vmware (service vmware stop/start), so:
Indeed.
Finally, after stopping/starting vmware once again:
[2010-01-23 13:21:09.047 'Proxysvc Req00001' 140377692190992 warning] Exception while processing request: Could not find host address for localhost: Unknown host [2010-01-23 13:21:19.077 'Proxysvc Req00002' 140377690601744 warning] Connection to server localhost:8308 failed with error Could not find host address for localhost: Unknown host. Retrying...
It is curious. Thinking... My 11.2 install has this in the /etc/hosts: - ----- 127.0.0.1 localhost # special IPv6 addresses ::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback - ----- Just in case: you should at least have the entry "127...", the one you had to comment out is the "::1..."
Also, why is it trying port 8308 when 8222/8333 were specified in the coniguration?
How do you start the client? I assume you use firefox, browsing to http://localhost:8222? However, I see in the config files that port 8308 is used for something else.
Any ideas? (other than start over with VirtualBox which is looking better with each passing day!)
Something went bad on your side... I certainly didn't have so much trouble. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
