probably won't work, but have you discovered if you right click on the
 speaker icon in the controls line as the bottom of the video
frame...you should get a menu with setup functions....sorry i can't
click up one right now (it is 8:00 AM in Denmark and nothing to
watch)...maybe in there somewhere there is a 'switch' to turn on, or
up, the mplayer's sound...(because, as mentioned earlier i have no
control over volume with KMix/etc..
