Hi, Last week I installed OS 11.2 64bit. One of the problems is my sound-card : intel HD audio, with an ALC883 codec. I configured the model to 6stack-dig because this is what I see : 6 jack's and I have an spdif output. When I run speaker-test -c4 or -c6 or -c8, I only get sound on my front speakers (I have 4 speakers). What am I doing wrong ?
Have you selected something like 51. surround sound mode?
How does one select 5.1-surround ?
You don't mention what you are using as a test tool. You might have to install a better tool.
The test-tool is "speaker-test". It's a tool from ALSA. You get this if you install alsa-utils. I also tried plugging my speakers in other output-jack's to see if this does something, but it didn't help. I also max'ed every slider in Yast's sound-setup. And the test-sounds only came from the front speakers.
When I enable surround, I do get sound from my rear speakers, but since I'm playing digital audio (mp3 or wav) I'm not sure if it's really working.
I don't remember if I enabled surround with a switch or setting a slider to max.
What is the best way to test the audio-system, if it's not speaker-test ?
Play a movie that has surround sound (5.1). Lacking any other source, other than stereo mp3s its sort of a moot point.
OK, I'll search for a DVD that has that THX-test. I'll also try my SB-live card. Thanks. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
