1. If a service is allowed in 'allowed services window' then only the port is opened that uses that service or is there any other action done by activation? Eg. adding ssh-server to allowed services only opens port 22 or does it something else too? And adding TCP port 22 to the list of additional allowed ports has the same effect as adding ssh-server to allowed services?
I think simply allowing ssh has the same effect ad adding port 22. Its just a common shorthand way to set up services without having to remember the ports. Samba on the other hand does require more than one port, so when the service is one of those listed, use that in preference to rolling your own.
2. If I have DSL internet connection then I have both network card and dsl interfaces configured. Which zones should be these services assigned to? Both dsl and eth0 to external, or only one of them to external, in this case which one?
External and internal are up to you. On a single NIC machine it can become a bit of a guessing game as everything must be considered as external.
In your case, I am guessing your DSL is used to access the net, and your eth0 is used to access your local area network.
In the most common example, External would be your DSL. Then Eth0 would be your local network, and it would be Internal.
Thank you John, according to the above it is enough to set my dsl interface to external zone, and I can leave eth0 unassigned or in the internal zone. Cheers, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
