So.. given that Flash video will actually play if I am

why embedded Flash won't play in some instances?

i had a similar problem getting flash to play -- no amount of re-
installing from yast would play those little buggers for me, and
i was getting the latest v10 flash installed

i googled around and found v9 available from one of adobe's sites
and downloaded the _tar.gz -- unzipped, untarred and started
looking for an installer -- no such luck

what i wound up doing to install it was to first create a plugins
path off ~/.mozilla/firefox/Opfybl2k.default/ (that last will be
different in your installation, but it will end in default/ ),
and dropped the libflashplayer.so in there -- presto, flash video
now plays for me

i don't know why v10 won't work for me and v9 works fine, but at
this point i don't care -- it works

i had a similar problem with firefox itself -- the suse branded
FF would not work, but plain jane FF from mozilla works fine --
go figure
