I DO agree about the bugs!! The openSUSE build of hplip, for example, isUntil 11.2 the installation process auto-detected the printer(s) and
a bust! It won't find USB printers on a number of
systems. At least it's broken on 11.2RC 2.
gave you the chance to configure it/them at this stage.
In 11.2 you need to go to YaST/Hardware and ADD a printer in which case
a scan is made to detect all the printers and the driver(s) loaded.

running the 8450 model. Not a single problem in having it recognised.
Maybe you should plug in the USB cable? :-)
