Im educating him, nowdays you dont want to use rpm directly for daily tasks, fast and working package managers exist now.
There are things that are akin to writing in assembly code when high level languages are available. You have to do all the detailed work that the compiler would do for you by hand. Its not scalable and its subject to errors that would not have occured if you used the compiler. Using rpm by hand when a package manager is available is like that. However there are no shortage of people who code in assembler. Some of them do so competently, but they still would not be the people I'd choose for developing my world-changing Microsoft-busting suite of software.
