I bought the CanoScan LiDE 60 because it offers USB 2.0:

Same holds true for the LiDE 60. And it works fine with Vista, too.
I used YaST to ensure that all needed packages got installed ...

It works better if you plug it in.

I have this scanner (Cannon LiDE25):
https://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Scanners/Flatbed/canonsca
n_lide25/index.asp and it works out of the box with Linux.
I bought the CanoScan LiDE 60 because it offers USB 2.0:

I bought it
because it's small/compact, and powered off the USB (no external power
brick).

I didn't have to do anything to get it to work with openSUSE
11.1... just plug it into the USB port and fire up my favorite scanner
software.
I used YaST to ensure that all needed packages got installed ...
