Try reducing the MTU of the interface that connects directly to your DSL
modem.
OK, via YaST Network settings I've dropped the MTU from 1500 (default)
to 1492 (next down in the list).
OK, So now I assume your openSUSE box is connected to the DSL modem...
if this is not the case, you have to reduce the MTU in your home router
or whatever is attached _directly_ to it.
The setup is:
PC -> Router -> ADSL Modem -> ISP
I've dropped the MTU to 1492 on the PC. The Router already was set to
1492 (the router has preconfig settings for my ISP).
Now I guess the only thing to do is monitor and wait to see if it
drops off again.

The scenario for "Joe" on this webpage is close to what I see. In the
scenario, it's a single website with the problem whereas with what I
see, it's all websites when it happens... and then it recovers shortly
thereafter.
