#1 In 3.5 you could go to the KDE Control Center and find a nice structured menu of all settings in KDE. Everything was there with only a few tiny omissions.
In KDE4.3 I wander aimlessly trying to find how and where to set these things. Fonts, colors, sounds, peripherals, samba shares, local network browsing... I could go on and on, but you get the point. These things are now hidden under various "cashews" and assorted places. Its kind of a mess. It needs consolidation again.
Have a look at the settings for systemsettings.
#2 Also as the system comes, until considerable configuration is performed, you can get so little on the screen that you right away wish you had a 30 inch monitor. Why is everything so fricken big? Huge fonts huge icons, Dolphin takes vast areas of real estate to show very few files.
People buy big screens to fit more on them. Not to have icons the size of snow balls.
Can't there be a Theme named "Please don't waste my screen space" which which allows compact presentation?
Mostly grown-ups use KDE. They don't need icon view in Dolphin to be the default. We know how to read.
It would be fine if this configuration was ease, but see #2 above.
AFAIR konqueror 3.5, i.e. the file-manager defaulted to icon view as well. Same for fonts, i.e. it used the system's settings, you can change the dpi value in the fonts kcm. Changing the view in dolphin is as easy as it was in konqueror. You can always create a theme and upload it to kde-look.org if it gets popular enough, i.e. there is demand for it it might even get included in the default KDE.
#3 Was it really necessary to remove Kong Filemanager mode and replace it with a repackaged Dolphin just to prevent people from seeing how much more useful the old Kong was than the new Dolphin? Where are the Print System Browser, the Bluetooth Browser, the Audio CD Browser, that all fit under the Services tab?
The services have nothing to do with konqueror and dolphin using the same parts for file-browsing but are simply kios that have to be installed if available. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
