I set up Linux in schools.
What the kids loves MOST OF ALL, before ANYTHING ELSE and thus makes them greatly prefer linux/openSuSE to any other OS - is the fact that they can have multiple desktops and decorate them with LOTS of pictures of all kinds.
This ability has been taken away from KDE4.
Not true. You can have one wallpaper per activity and one activity per desktop.
It's even less true that KDE4 would have less appeal to kids who want to have different pictures on their desktop since they now can use the image plasmoid to spam their desktop not only with one but many pictures and even slideshows.
They can even paint on their desktop with the desktop effects, let it snow, have stars around their mouse cursor, have a small ball jumping all over the desktop, flowers growing if you water them and lots of other fun stuff.
That's KDE, the freedom to turn your work environment into whatever you want, even a playground.

Hi list and Sven, - thank you for clarifying this. - I found it right away, don't understand why I couldn't find it when I tried earlier... Now, I managed to change the background - for ALL desktops, not for just one. Pardon me for asking, but how for just one...I can't seem to find it. You also state that, quote: "They can even paint on their desktop with the desktop effects, let it snow, have stars around their mouse cursor, have a small ball jumping all over the desktop, flowers growing if you water them and lots of other fun stuff." I can't seem to find my way into doing anything of this. Does it work, I have a pretty standard openSuSE11.1/KDE4.1.3 desktop (ersion 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 4.10.4")? I'm somewhat reluctant to "upgrade" into anything KDE, as it seems to break things even more. As of now, I have a working desktop - I haven't dared to twist og fiddle with it at all. I don't even trust making a .kde4.tar.gz file backup file would be sufficient to bring me back once things break... The desktopfolder cannot be brought into focus if another window is just partly over it. Quite annoying...Can this behaviour be changed? Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to go into the usual "I hate KDE4 rant" :-) I actually think that it is major step forward, just because I don't understand it (yet) doesn't make a bad thing. To sum it up, individual backgrounds, how ?
