Let's try to make this work for one partition first say the D: drive. Remove the lines you inserted before and try this one. It's essentially letting the system guess the file type and permissions by itself. Save the file and Reboot.
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part2<space>/windows/D<space>auto<space>defaults
With this you should be able to access the D: drive as the root user. So if you are logged in as normal user. Go to System->Terminal->Console to open a bash shell. Then type (without the quotes)
"su root"
Then type "cd /windows/D" (navigate to the folder)
Then type "ls" (this will show a list of files in D: drive)
If this works we can tweak it to work for normal users as well. However if this doesn't work then mail me with the details of /etc/fstab and /etc/mtab.
Ok here is what I did: Replaced the 2 lines for C and D with /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part2 /windows/D auto defaults I went into a terminal and typed "su" to get into the root, and first tried to do a manual mount by typing mount -o remount /Windows/D It said mount: can't find /Windows/D in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab Then I changed it from upper case "Windows" to lower case "windows" and typed mount -o remount /windows/D and it said mount: you must specify the filesystem type so I typed mount -a and it said mount: you must specify the filesystem type so I tried to go back to the previous way and type mount -a, but it still would not mount, so I went back to the line above as before, but instead made it capital Windows, as following /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part2 /Windows/D auto defaults so here is what I get when i type mount -a ntfs-3g-mount: bad mount point /Windows/D: No such file or directory Here is my fstab file: /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part6 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part7 /home ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 2 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST9250827AS_5RG0CMC3-part2 /Windows/D auto defaults proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 Here is my mtab file: /dev/sda6 / ext3 rw,acl,user_xattr 0 0 /proc /proc proc rw 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs rw 0 0 debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs rw 0 0 udev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 /dev/sda7 /home ext3 rw,acl,user_xattr 0 0 fusectl /sys/fs/fuse/connections fusectl rw 0 0 securityfs /sys/kernel/security securityfs rw 0 0 none /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc binfmt_misc rw 0 0 /dev/sr0 /media/SU1110.001 iso9660 ro,nosuid,nodev,noatime,uid=1000,utf8 0 0 my attempt to cd to the D drive results as follows: george@linux-kwqm:~> cd /windows/D bash: cd: /windows/D: No such file or directory george@linux-kwqm:~> cd /Windows/D bash: cd: /Windows/D: No such file or directory "Also please mention the OS, kernel versions you are using.
