Reporting back after a while. With openSUSE 11.1 KDE 3.5.10 Rel.21.11 (Kernel: Linux ~ 2.6.27.25-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-07-01 15:37:09 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) the problem seems to have persisted. If I can recall correctly, the links in Thunderbird opened in the same desktop window the link was clicked on. Now it is anyone's guess which desktop it opens up in. Describing this behaviour in the Firefox mail group had nil response; most are in Windoze or never seem to use different Desktops.
Will this die a silent death with KDE 3x, assuming all go to KDE4? Does anyone have a solution to get the Desktop behaviour of KDE 3x to always open links in the Dekstop I am in at the moment; not somewhere where it has to be hunted down for. I'd hate to move on to another desktop manager; been with KDE such a long time ...
It's strange, but my experience has been the opposite of yours. I'm currently using KDE 4.2.4 but I had 8 desktops when I used KDE 3. I also use Kmail, not Thunderbird. When I clicked on a link in Kmail, it would bring Firefox to the same desktop as Kmail was running on, and open the link. I prefer to keep Firefox on its own desktop, and it took me some time to work out how to do that. So, what I'm saying is that what you want is the default behaviour, in my experience. Are you sure you haven't changed something in the Desktop configuration?
