This was a bit surprising. In this rating openSuSE is the leader in the number of obsolete packages and lag time in packaging. Granted the data underlying the study is not bulletproof, but it does seem to suggest a bit of corporate paralysis. I have no idea of the differences between the ways other distros handle upstream/downstream package movement, but some of the distros shown to do a better job have only a tiny fraction of the resources that openSuSE has. All good info to look at for comparison purposes. Take a look:

One thing to keep in mind is that openSUSE 11.1 was released last year. It will be behind all the other distros that follow a 6 month release cycle. It would be interesting to see when they looked at openSUSE Factory. I expect openSUSE Factory to be behind at times as most of the work is done in the devel projects and when ready they are merged into openSUSE Factory.
