Distro hopping is a complete waste of time.
WRT Intel video hardware that statement is false. Going to a different distro can often get you a slightly different X version, which can be all the difference in the world between X working acceptably or not.
IIRC 845G worked quite well in 11.0, but wasn't made to work at all for 11.1 until after 11.1 went to GM, and may never yet have been fixed for those with bling-enabled. Check Bugzilla and this list's archives for posts/comments by Lynn Wilson (who has 20 845G systems) to see if maybe it did. See also: http://tinyurl.com/3w66yf
Those using 845G on 11.1 who haven't tried 'Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"' should do so.
I had to update the xorg to get it working initially: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.1/ But I think opensuse have fixed it since then so maybe just a yast online update will be enough.
