I suffer from often X crashes and keyboard hanging once in a while. I now read disabling APIC may cure this.
Have you proofed that this really _is_ the cause for the hangs, and that disabling APIC helps?
Since I still use a single CPU system I am curious to know, can the APIC / IO-APIC be safely disabled on a computer that has a CPU with several cores? Or is APIC mandatory for multi core CPUs?
No, it's not. Before I go in all to deep, if your problems really are APIC related, I would suggest to recompile the kernel with CONFIG_X86_REROUTE_FOR_BROKEN_BOOT_IRQS activated first, and you should also consider a BIOS update. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
