I think you are a victim of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151669 , I have the same problem.
Oh, and the SUDO work around allows me to access the login-manager and it updates the kdmrc file, but KDM ignores it, paying attention ONLY to the /etc/sysconfig, as I mentioned.
I rarely use login manager and I only noticed it after I had to remove autologin due to another bug where I was able to login to a non existent gnome and couldn't get out, so I can't recall when this happened (I run factory) but there is a thread started on the 19th on the opensuse-kde list for the same problem ,http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2009-07/msg00082.html is the first message in the thread, also where I got the bug number from, and it is allegedly only scheduled to be fixed in kde4.4 but if you scroll down the bug you will come across https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151669#c101 where the commenter says it seems to be better in the latest ubuntu. This is certainly not so in opensuse factory yet though. Regards Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
